Bridge Inspection, Design & Rehabilitation

PKB Engineering personnel can provide full bridge evaluation, inspection and rating services on a wide variety of highway, railroad, and movable structures for both the private and public sectors. This includes the evaluation, inspection, and rating of structures ranging from single span bridges to major long-span bridges and varies other structures including but not limited to sign structures, high mast light towers, and antenna towers.


Our engineers have the extensive experience in the inspection of a wide variety of materials including steel, (includes weather steel) concrete, high performance concrete, prestressed concrete, and timber. Our NHI/SPRAT certified Team Leaders are familiar with all current NBIS inspection procedures and requirements and have attended all of the latest certification classes. Our Team Leaders are also qualified to provide a complete hands-on inspection of all fracture critical members (FCM) and have the experience to identify fatigue prone details in particular members. Our Engineers have the experience in the inspection and rating of the following structures:

Our experienced engineers can inspect and report on a wide variety of structural conditions through the use of a variety of inspection techniques and equipment and through the use of our vast experience in performing inspections. Our engineers have extensive experience in the management of traffic control and have developed successful MPT stages in to order access structures. Our engineers have the necessary experience in the usage of a variety of equipment and inspection techniques which includes:
  • Bucket Trucks (30' to 85')
  • Over-the-Side Vehicles (Snoopers, UB-30, 50, 60, and 75)
  • Man-Lifts ranging from 75' to 150'
  • Bronto Lifts (110'-150')
  • SPRAT Climbing (see SPRAT video)
Our Team Leaders are also familiar with and can perform and/or implement many NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) techniques.

Design & Rehabilitation

PKB Engineering can provide complete bridge rehabilitation and design services for the deck, superstructure, and substructure for both highway and railroad bridges from the conceptual stage through to the final design stage. PKB Engineers will use the most innovative concepts and latest technology for all our bridge design projects. Our Engineers have the experience in the design of all types of bridges using a wide variety of materials including steel, weathering steel, concrete, high performance concrete, prestressed concrete and timber. Our Engineers have experience in rehabilitation of the bridge decks, superstructures, and the substructures of various types of bridges and have been part of many specific bridge deck and miscellaneous structural steel repair contracts.
